NEW WEBSITE/FORUM FOR OUR GROUP

I have a few ideas about our forum, but I'm sure you guys have even more.

I could help you with this as I do this kind of stuff. However, if we move there will be several problems:

1. If we create a new site it will be from scratch. The forumotion admin panels don't have anything of the sort that lets us move, edit or migrate the databases. We can't move anything off of this site easily.

2. I'm not that good at visual design, but I know how to convert one from a photoshop file into an actual site.

3. There are actual hosting costs if we host a site privately outside of something free like Forumotion. This may be from 3$ a month upwards.

If only we had that crook Micah's photoshop skills LOL.

well I think I posted on this forum somewhere that I currently participate in a forum that is really well made.The chat is great.The forum is pretty standard but they put an effort to have some banners that change every week when there is some news on the forum.That itself might not be a big deal...but it also has a section where one can download stuff.So we could have a section where students could upload and download e-books about nei-gong or other training.

Valid point Okuma – we are on the quest for knowledge so we definitely need online library…

Books are a great source of inspiration for many people.

well I could try to ask the guys at that forum what were the codes they used or something like that....But I'm not sure will they will share anything...since...it's kind of a "we don't exist" type of forum

The only thing I would suggest is that the new forum isn't black as the main color. It makes the forum so "dark"

The only suggestion I can think of is to greatly simplify the amount of sub-categories. We have so many sub-categories, navigating the site sometimes feels like a maze. I think TaoBums does a decent job of handling a ton of threads in an accessible way. I'm interested to see what Okuma liked about the forum he mentioned.

I'm glad we're concidering changing school's website. I think I could help with that. Got some experience. Two of my websites (based on Joomla with some customized templates):

Not a big deal.

White Lotus is right, there will be some minimal costs (for hosting). Or I can just keep the website on one of my servers.

If Peter will decide we go with a new site, we should decide for graphic template. I propose something like this:

Of course it requires customization (it can be done quite easily).

Now about the content. It will be very difficult (if not impossible) to move current content to a new site. So we should consider creating new forum from the beginning and maybe keeping old one as an archive.
